Hi, we’re Alan and Gretchen Coggins — the hands, the heart, and the makers behind every piece at CogsCraft.co Leather.

Each bag, wallet, and accessory we create is handcrafted one at a time in our home in Independence, Kentucky. We work with premium full-grain and vegetable-tanned leathers chosen for their durability, beauty, and the way they develop a rich patina over time — becoming more uniquely yours with every use.

Why Handmade Matters

In a world of mass production, we believe in making things that last.

We were tired of buying retail items only to have them fall apart with use. The quality just wasn’t there. 

What began as a belt for Alan and a purse for Gretchen quickly turned into a full-time business, and our work is featured at the Kentucky Artisan Center in Berea. 

Top quality leather is either hand-cut or die cut, and 98% of our work is hand-stitched. Chrome-tanned products are finished with painted edges, veg-tanned items are burnished on the edges. Designs range from classical to whimsical.  There are no shortcuts, because the craft deserves better — and so do you.

Whether you're picking up a piece at one of our events or ordering online, you're getting something made with genuine care and skill, not a factory floor.

Materials We Stand By

• Full-grain leather — the strongest, most natural layer of the hide, built to last decades
• Waxed thread —used for our hand-stitched items for strength and a clean, classic look
• Industrial Thread — used for machine-stitched items, every thread end heat sealed for lasting durability
